Between 2017 and 2018 14,145 human trafficking victims were registered in the EU, 72% of them being women and girls forced into prostitution and sexual exploitation. With COVID-19, the economic downturn and recent migration waves set to increase this criminal activity, what further steps should the EU take in the fight against human trafficking and protection of its victims?
