Debates

DROI

Rethinking the periods to end period poverty: Currently, 1 in 10 girls cannot afford sanitary products. While some Member States made the female hygiene products free, many still consider these goods as basic or even luxury goods. Taking into account period poverty comes with many negative consequences for women especially girls, what steps should the EU take to tackle this issue on its way to gender equality?

EMPL

Inclusion of people with disabilities in the labour market: In early March 2021, the European Commission launched the Union of Equality: Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030, aiming to promote the rights of people with disabilities. Considering that only 50% of disabled people are in employment, compared to 75% of non-disabled people, how can the EU ensure participation in the labour market and skill acquisition for people with disabilities, while combating discrimination?

ENVI

Combatting Food Waste: It is estimated that 1.3 billion tonnes of food, which is 1/3 of all food produced for human consumption, is wasted globally each year. Considering the Sustainable Development Goal 12 aims to halve per capital global food waste at the retail and consumer levels by 2030, how can the EU ensure this goal is met?

FEMM

Law enforcement and legal response to violence against women: In March 2021, the British government classed misogyny as a hate crime. However, despite especially online misogyny being on the rise, often resulting in real-word attacks on women, violence against females is still shockingly underreported and often not taken seriously by law enforcement agencies. Taking into account the systemic nature of discrimination and hatred against women, what measures should the EU take to improve the prosecution of misogyny?

LIBE

Improving prison conditions and the criminal justice system: With half a million people currently imprisoned in the EU and 50% of former prisoners committing another crime within a year of their release, what measures should the EU take to ensure liveable prison conditions and an effective criminal justice system?
