Debates

AFCO

Corruptissima republica plurimae leges: Taking into account the recent process of reflection launched by the European Commission about the extent to which the Member States would agree to be supervised on possible breaches of the rule of law, as well as the Article 7 procedures already open against Poland and Hungary, how can the European Union monitor, implement and guarantee the respect for the rule of law?

EMPL

Salus populi suprema lex esto: While working hard on implementing an EU social pillar, MEPs approved the creation of a European Labour Authority, as well as several positions that favour the rights of European workers and combat social dumping. How should the EU approach the implementation of such a body in order to make Europe’s labour market fairer and enable citizen mobility?

JURI

Veritas omnia vincit: With more and more whistleblowers being unfairly prosecuted for their actions in the past few years, the European Parliament has voted in favour of a new law aimed at protecting them from reprisals. Keeping in mind that only 10 out of the 28 Member States provide comprehensive protection from dismissal and legal prosecution for whistleblowers, how can the EU best defend their rights, without undermining national security?

LIBE

Ubi concordia, ibi victoria: Following the 2015 decision to implement random border checks, Germany recently decided to extend border controls at the German-Austrian border, instead of reverting back to normal in the Schengen area. Additionally, five other Member States are currently making use of the exception clause in the Schengen Borders Code. What measures should the EU take so as to protect the freedom of movement and to prevent the fragmentation of the Schengen area?

SEDE

Lux in tenebris lucet: While larger online platforms are actively working on preventing the dissemination of terrorist messages online, up to 400 more obscure websites are hosting content used to radicalise, recruit and incite to violence. How should the EU tackle this issue, given the high risk of youth being subjected to extremist propaganda?
